True American Burger

What can be better than having friends over and surprising them with true American burgers that you have made yourself? If you, like us, cannot think of any answer – this recipe is for you.

To top it all off, you can accompany your feast with a bottle of American craft beer and some interesting facts about the history of this dish which you can learn from our recent article.

Now, let’s get down to our burgers:

 

Ingredients (for 6 burgers)

  • 900 grams freshly ground chuck (at least 80% lean)
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 12 slices cheddar cheese
  • 6 large burger buns

Garnish as desired

  • ketchup
  • mayonnaise
  • sliced red onion
  • sliced tomatoes
  • sliced pickles
  • fresh lettuce leaves

Cooking steps

Step 1

Mix ground beef, garlic powder, salt, and pepper in a large bowl. Do not overmix to prevent the patties from being tough.

Step 2

Divide into six portions and form patties, without pressing too hard - just grab the amount needed per patty and shape it quickly. Make these right before you grill them, so they stay at room temperature.

Step 3

Preheat your grill, grill pan, or cast-iron pan to high heat and put the burger patties on the grill or in the pan. If using a grill, cover with the lid.

Step 4

Cook until the bottom crust of the burger stops sticking to the pan or grate, about 2 minutes. When patties lift easily, flip, cover them with two slices of cheese each, close the lid if using a grill, and cook on the other side for another 2-3 minutes for medium to medium-rare.

Step 5

Remove burgers from the heat and transfer them to a plate. Allow to rest for several minutes, then put them on top of the buns.

Step 6

Add the vegetables in any desired order, add sauces and serve!

Feel free to tailor the ingredients to your taste. Experiment with vegetables, the amount of cheese or type of meat to find your personal perfection. Do not forget to stock your fridge with a couple of bottles of American craft beer when cooking burgers - they are a perfect pairing. Bon Appetit!
