Wild Salmon – A Treasure of Alaska Waters

When one thinks about Alaska, they probably think about salmon. You may instantly picture a school of fish rushing back to the crystal clear Alaska rivers to complete their astonishing spawning cycle.

There are not many places left in the world where wild fish are harvested. Alaska is one of them. This unique region plays an integral role in the world’s salmon production and is a one-of-a-kind supplier of a premium-quality product.

Why Alaska Salmon Is The Best

There is an extensive list of factors that make Alaska salmon so unique.

First, fish there have better living conditions. In contrast to farm-raised salmon, they are raised in the wild, with no limits in space or food choice.

Food, by the way, is another crucial factor. Unlike farm-raised salmon, which mostly eat highly-processed fish feed, an Alaska wild salmon’s diet includes nutritious and diverse natural foods. And we all know: we are what we eat. So it directly affects the taste qualities and texture of the fish. Wild salmon is denser, less fatty, and has a darker color.

Last, but not least, the cleanliness of the water and the volume of fish caught are strictly controlled at the legislative level. Sustainability goes hand in hand with the Alaskan fishing industry to ensure the salmon population is preserved for future generations.

Wild salmon, harvested from the clear Alaska waters, is rich in nutrients essential for human health. Salmon is a valuable source of high-quality “lean” protein and heart-healthy omega-3 fatty acids. It also supplies your body with an array of important vitamins and minerals.

Types of Alaska Salmon

Alaskan waters are home to five salmon species:

King Salmon – one of the largest species. It is valued for its color, high fat content, tender texture and buttery flavor.

Keta – this species has a saturated orangey-pink color and firm flesh. It is commonly used for grilling, as well as for drying or smoking.

Sockeye – is distinguished by the dark red color of the meat, dense and juicy texture, and high content of polyunsaturated fats.

Coho Salmon – is also known as Silver Salmon because of its bright silver sides. With its mild flavor, orange-red color and firm texture, it is perfectly suited for grilling and broiling.

Pink Salmon – is the most abundant species of salmon in Alaska, and hence – the most affordable. This kind is light pink in color and has a soft texture and delicate taste.

Wild Alaska Salmon’s Culinary Appeal

Wild Alaska salmon hits the jackpot when it comes to food. This is because Salmon combines an impressive nutritional value and an incredible taste. It is super versatile and can be prepared in a variety of ways – it can be baked, broiled, grilled, steamed or served raw in sushi and sashimi. And all of that – with as little time and effort on your part as possible. Even if you are an inexperienced cook – it never fails to be delicious. A new recipe on our website, Salmon with Asparagus and Hollandaise Sauce, will erase any doubts you may have about the matter.

Wild Alaska salmon will always be a great choice, whether you are preparing school lunch for your children or hosting an exquisite dinner. Including it in your diet is the right decision for those who care about their health and general well-being.
